Holocaust Memorial

Holocaust Memorial 310515

In 2007 Havant Borough Council provided the Holocaust Memorial, which is located on the central island of the New Lane Cemetery.
The memorial is made from a block of Welsh Slate and has a stainless steel ‘flame’ mounted in a hollowed out section. The ‘flame’, which is the symbol of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, is to represent warmth, hope and remembrance emerging from the cold of the slate. A service is held here each year on January 27th, Holocaust Remembrance Day and the anniversary date of the liberation of Auschwitz – Birkenau concentration camp. The service is to remember all victims of the Holocaust and reflect upon those affected by more recent atrocities.
