Holocaust Memorial Garden Ready for Service

Friends of Havant Cemeteries had an extra work party this morning to tidy the Holocaust Memorial Garden in preparation for the Holocaust Memorial Day service to be held at 11.00am next Monday (27th January).  The non-denominational service will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp and the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.

The theme for this year’s commemoration is ‘Stand Together’ and will be led by Councillor Leah Turner.  Readings will also be given by The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Diana Patrick and local pupils from schools around the Borough.  The service will conclude with the laying of wreaths, during which a pupil from Hayling College will play the theme tune to Schindler’s List on the violin.

Following the event, refreshments will be available in the Event Suite at the Public Service Plaza, Civic Centre Road, Havant, PO9 2AX.  Artwork from the schools will also be on display.
